Mayor Palmer says the new Public Domain Plan for Nelson Bay is now on public exhibition for community feedback.

“Nelson Bay is a thriving place, which is leaping forward into its next chapter. This time last year, we asked the community what they loved about the Bay and what they would like to see more of.

“This new Public Domain Plan proposes three big moves to achieve that community vision over the next 20 years.
Our first move is to add more street trees in the town centre and create better connections to the foreshore and Tomaree National Park.

“We also want to have a town centre that is people-friendly, so that it’s easier to walk or ride your bike around town.

“Finally, we want to create more high quality spaces for our locals and tourists to enjoy night and day, year-round.

Mayor Palmer says Port Stephens Council received much-needed funding from the NSW Government to develop the plan for Nelson Bay.

“Just like an architect draws up plans for a house, a Public Domain Plan paints a picture of how the streets and public spaces will look and feel, and how those spaces can be used by the community.

“This plan celebrates Nelson Bay’s unique identity as a town by the Bay — a place where our locals and tourists want to live, work, play and stay.

“The Public Domain Plan will be used to guide future investment in Nelson Bay, including grant funding and future works by Council. Many of these works will be fast-tracked if our Special Rate Variation application is approved by IPART, seeing a number of key actions from the plan kicking off in the short-term,” Mayor Palmer said.
