Guest Speaker at the monthly meeting was Monte Dwyer, who is best remembered as the weather man on the Today Show a few years back when Liz Hayes and Steve Liebmann were hosts. Dwyer was an amusing entertainer with a very interesting and checkered career and held his audience in the palm of his hand as he shared his stories. The snooker boys who meet for “Pot Black” every Tuesday are well into the hotly contested blue versus red pairs competition. “The monthly social bowls mob involves a keen group which includes a lot of sledging and laughs involved in the night which makes a fun night for all attending,” Ann Gibson, President told Bay News Of The Area. “Twenty-seven members travelled to Sydney to see ‘Kinky Boots’, enjoying a pub lunch before the show and lots of great conversations on the way down and back,”Mrs Gibson said. The fun, feel-good musical tells a simple story about acceptance of yourself and others. A trip away to Mudgee in August is currently on the drawing board and a Morning Tea by the Sea has been planned for Thursday 25 May . Coming events include an Annual Ladies Lunch in mid-June, Railway and Mining Museum day trip and a Christmas in July Mystery Tour. The club offers fun and friendship to retired and semi-retired couples and singles. Everyone is welcome to attend meetings on the second Thursday of the month, 9.30am at Nelson Bay Bowling Club.
