THIRD generation Chief Executive Officer Paul Hurley of the Brown and Hurley Truck Group Inc invites everyone to help Brown and Hurley celebrate its 75th year by coming to their Coffs Harbour Open Day on June 5.

At the event locals can expect to get up close to a variety of trucks, learn about the history behind the trucking industry icon and its motto ‘Principles Before Profit’.

The Open Day will be a fun family environment with entertainment and giveaways, and a chance to check out the quality finishes in products such as KENWORTH’s K200, T610 and the T360 and the DAF Euro 6 model.

Mr Hurley said, “We deliver forty percent of trucks that go into the Coffs Harbour region so that relates to products available on shelves such as at supermarkets and in hardware shops.”

The company has also been historical employers of three major trade apprentices locally.

“We employ approximately a dozen apprentices including three new apprentices a year in Coffs Harbour as boilermakers, auto electricians and diesel mechanics,” he said.

Graham Sebbens, Dealer Principal and Branch Manager of Brown and Hurley Coffs Harbour, spoke to News Of The Area about the importance of the company’s motto, ‘Principles Before Profit’, to him and his staff.

“It is a statement all our staff believe in and use everyday and is the way we conduct ourselves and do business.

“We have achieved great results in 2019 and received the Australian New Zealand DAF Dealer of the Year Award and also revived the PACCAR Customer Excellence Champion Award for three years running which is the greatest feeling,” said Mr Sebbens.

Brown and Hurley employs over forty staff in Coffs Harbour and seven in Tamworth.

The company was formed seventy five years ago by army mates Alan Brown and Jack Hurley.

After the war they decided to go into business together.

Beginning in Kyogle in 1946 through a mateship partnership committed to ‘’principles before profit’, this company has stuck to that model and flourished.

A book about the company’s history, The Brown and Hurley Story, will be launched by Federal Member Kevin Hogan MP at the Kyogle Open Day, also on 5 June.
