Tomaree High Schools Maths Teacher Adewale Kareem is coordinating the visit which involves host families and buddies for school classes for the students.

School Principal Sue Xenos said, “The Chinese students come from Shanghai a city with the same population as the whole of Australia.”

While in Port Stephens the Chinese Students will be attending school classes and excursions as well as enjoying free time with their host families.

Food Culture and other cultural differences will be explored and classes will be adapted to ensure that the visiting students can share and participate in them during their stay.

The students are aged between 13 and 16 years of age and will be attending classes from years 7 to 11 at Tomaree High School.

Travelling with the thirteen students from Pu Jiang Middle School and Xin Zhuang Middle School are teachers Miss Chen and Miss Liu as well as trip coordinators Wen Sun and Yock Hu.

Students from Years 7 to 9 will be buddying up with the Chinese Students to ensure that the exchange is a success.

Chinese coordinator Wen Sun told News Of The Area, “As this is the students first trip to Australia they will be finishing their visit seeing iconic sights including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.”

The contrast of seeing life in regional Port Stephens, with our wide open spaces and pristine beaches is sure to make a long lasting impact on these students.
