Joshua Allardice has been undertaking a school-based traineeship at Port Performance at Taylors Beach and will be studying a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanics at Hunter TAFE. Joshua plans to spend his $1000 scholarship on tools of trade. A third scholarship was awarded to Tyess Cook of Irrawang High School who will be completing a Certificate III in Acute Care Nursing. Lachlan dePater said, “I am very happy to have been successful, things like this scholarship can make a big difference to careers and training.” “My boss told me to apply, I am very surprised that I am a recipient and it will make a big difference to me,” Joshua Allardice said. Tomaree High School Principal Susan Xenos said, “Anything which gives our students a leg up into work placement is good.” “This program shows that our school is producing people that are ready for the workforce.” Soldiers Point Marina Manager Darrell Barnett told News Of The Area, “We are really proud to be assisting young people in their transition from school to employment.” “These scholarships make a very real difference to the young people that apply; it builds their experience, confidence and ability to fund their studies,” he said. Soldiers Point Marina committed to a three-year program of scholarships in 2014 and will continue the program into 2018 having provided $9000 in support to Port Stephens Students over the three years.
