Perhaps if Lewis Carroll had written his classic fantasies from the bay it would have been pelicans rather than flamingos.

However croquet on the Tomaree Peninsula is a fun and strategic game that people of all ages can enjoy without any repercussions from the Queen of Hearts.

Eighteen members of the Probus Club of Port Stephens stormed the Nelson Bay Croquet Club for another fun session of croquet in brilliant sunshine this month.

The members of the Probus club were able to learn from the Nelson Bay Croquet Club members who provided coaching and encouragement.

The Probus Club of Port Stephens is active and get into lots of different activities locally.

Ann Gibson told News Of the Area that next month enthusiastic members will tackle the David Grahams Golf and Putt Putt Masters with a motorhome up for grabs for a hole-in-one.

“In the meantime there is, bowls to be bowled, and walks to be walked; movies to be watched, fish to be caught and a BBQ to be enjoyed and that is just August for the members of this busy and social club,” she said.

Meetings are the second Thursday each month, from 9.30am at Nelson Bay Bowling Club and anyone can go along and check out this mixed gender Probus Club.
