The theme was ‘Gold Rush’ and the scouts participated in a wide range of activities, including canoeing, laser tag, rock climbing, horizontal bungee, possum box building and gold panning.

The Scout programme is designed for young people between the ages of five and 25, with Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers, and has four key areas of focus: community, outdoors, personal development and creative.

Recent changes to the programme are designed to support the continuous development of skills and no matter what your interest or ability, Scouts provides the opportunity to build and explore new and existing talents.

Scout meetings are usually held weekly and follow the school term timetable with units across the area beginning to regroup for 2022.

Camps and weekend activities are also organised and often provide a chance for the whole family to get involved.

Ralph Francis ‘Kookaburra’, has been active in the Scout movement for 60 years and is the Group leader of 1st Tilligerry.

Ralph told News Of The Area, “Scouts is a youth-led, adult supported organisation.

“We are looking to grow our Scouting community in the area and provide the opportunity for both children and their parents to become involved in fun and engaging activities together.”

Tiligerry 1st Scouts will be starting a Joeys (five to seven years) unit this term, led by a local mum who was keen to get her son involved.

The weekly programmes vary, there is something for everyone and the first four meetings are free to give your child a chance to experience a wide range of activities before they sign up.

Scouts is also an approved Active Kids rebate provider.

There are several units across Port Stephens, the best way to find out where your nearest unit meets is to contact the Hunter and Coastal Region on 1300 858 464 or visit nsw.scouts.com.au.
