For some students sitting in a classroom is an agony and they simply don’t learn.

The Real Futures Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization with an established track record of inspiring and motivating students to either stay in school and increase their educational engagement and attainment, or choose a positive pathway that enables successful transition to employment, further education or training.

We provide Port Stephens students that need help with core skills such as basic maths, English and communication skills assist them in their career aspirations.

The World Economic Forums’ current data shows a juxtaposition between employers, young people and educators with 78% of educators believing young people leave school ready for work but 58% of employers and 55% of young people don’t believe that young people are ready for work.

The Foundations programs target these specific areas, connecting industry with potential employees and ensuring that their needs are met.

The Foundation inspires Year 10 students to think about their futures and we offer training and programs collaborating with industry and teachers to create lesson plans and teaching tools.

News Of The Area reporter Marian Sampson’s other ‘ hat’ is as the Foundations Marketing Manager.

Ms Sampson told News Of The Area, “We are proud to create an environment where employers, youth and the community work together.”

Many students each year are paired with potential employers to conduct work experience through the Foundation.
These placements lead to apprenticeships, traineeships and enrolment in further education.

Real Futures Programs such as The Salamander Bay Recycling Centres Practical Maths gives students skills for life which are transferable across industries and regions to create future employees who are resilient and equipped to deal with the constantly changing global workforce markets.

“We are also keen to gain greater traction within potential growth industries for the region and ensure that our local youth are engaged in professional development with skills that will be transferable into different careers,” she said.

To achieve these goals the Foundation needs more support and funding for programs that will make a real difference for our youth and for our community.
