First stop was Kurri Kurri Park for morning tea in the warm sunshine with the Big Kookaburra. Lots of photos were snapped with this impressive big bird. The journey continued through the always beautiful Hunter Valley to Drayton’s historic winery where the wine tasting was enthusiastically embraced while being entertained by cellar doorman, Daniel. Some very tasty drops and quite a few brown bags were carried back to the bus by members. Lunch was also enjoyed at Draytons and Steve persuaded Gwen Smith to lead the happy crew in singing some Christmas songs. It was then back on the coach and off to the Hunter Valley Gardens to stroll around the shops and have an ice cream and coffee. Last stop was at De Bortelli Winery for more tasting and purchasing. By now, some were ready for a little nap on the way home but not before a ‘what do you remember about the day’ quiz. Ann Gibson, the President and Publicity Officer for the Probus Club of Port Stephens, told the News Of The Area, “It was a great day out and everyone had a fantastic time.” “Probus is about friendship and fellowship and our members all enjoy the wonderful feeling of belonging,” she said. You can find out more at or attend the next meeting at Nelson Bay Bowling Club on 10 August at 9.30am. Everyone is very welcome. By Marian SAMPSON
