PREPARATIONS are underway for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Nelson Bay VIEW Club, and there’s excitement in the air.

The event will be held on Friday 8th September, at the Soldiers Point Bowling Club with guest speaker Chancellor of The University of Newcastle, Mr Paul Jeans.

Members, past members and friends are looking forward to renewing acquaintances and sharing memories over lunch and a celebratory glass of champagne.

The acronym VIEW, stands for ‘Voice Interests and Education of Women’.

Apart from being a friendship club that enjoys monthly luncheons with entertaining and informative guest speakers, VIEW Clubs also support disadvantaged children with their education, through The Smith Family’s ‘Learning for Life’ program.

The Nelson Bay VIEW Club is proud to support 10 such ‘L for L’ students.

The ‘Voice’ of VIEW is also important in that through a resolution process, clubs are encouraged to identify and vote on issues that we consider important for influencing social change in Australia.

Pat Gibson President of the Nelson Bay VIEW Club told News Of The Area that “our club was formed in 1967 and boasted just 14 members”.

“Present members are delighted that the first President of their Club, Mrs Lee Clarke will be attending the function to celebrate 50 years of the Nelson Bay VIEW Club.”

“Guests are very welcome to attend the 50th birthday party with tickets ($35) available from Black Pepper at the Salamander Bay Shopping Centre until 30 August,“ she said.
