Basket Belong Titties translates to bra in the local Ni-Van language. Anita networks on social media for bra donations. Generous locals travelling to Vanuatu and Fiji fill their baggage allowance with the bras and deliver them to women in need. Bras have been sent to a Northern Territory mission who put a call out for women’s clothing. The endeavour has sent several thousand bras to women who don’t have access to bras or simply can’t afford them. Over 100 people have donated to the program, mostly from Port Stephens and Newcastle. The good work saw Anita recognised in a recent edition of MPA Magazine (Mortgage Professionals Australia). Anita Marshall told News Of The Area, “I started this because I was shocked that most of the women in the South Pacific cannot afford a bra.” “For most women there the cost of a bra is around two weeks’ wages, and they have far greater priorities than buying a bra so they go without.” “I wanted to make a difference in the lives of these wonderful women who have so little and appreciate absolutely anything you do for them.” In Australia we are very blessed and often take so much for granted, it’s nice to give back and make a difference,” she said. Anita Marshall is active in the local bay business community, and is involved in a wide range of charitable work including being fundraising coordinator for the Port Stephens Koalas.
