Little Athletics Coach Bob Walkley told News Of The Area, “This was Aileesha’s second season of athletics and she achieved some amazing results this year including 21 personal bests and seven club records.” Aileesha represented the club at both the Zone and Regional carnivals and qualified for the State Championships. “Sadly the State Championships were cancelled due to COVID-19,” he said. At Zone Aileesha won the 80M hurdles and set a new Zone record. She also came first in the triple jump and 200m and third in the 100m. At the Regionals Aileesha won the 80M hurdles with a new regional record and personal best and also won the triple jump with yet another personal best before coming second in the 100 metres. Aileesha’s results show that she performs well under pressure. Training four days every week under the tutelage of Club President Bob Walkley, Aileesha is proving that she is a committed athlete. Filda Oudshoorn Alieesha’s mother told News Of The Area, “Alieesha comes from an athletic family – sport is in her genes. “Alieesha loves to push herself, as a family we concentrate on her being better, but also enjoying what she is doing, we remind her that whatever you do, always have fun,” she said. Alongside Alieesha is Jock Gilchrist who took out the Boys Club Champion for the season. Jock is also in the Under 11’s athletes this year his achievements included 28 personal bests and a 100% attendance at club night. Jock represented the club at both Zone and Regional competitions. At Zone, Jock competed in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, placing second in the 1500m and third in the 800m. The members of the Port Stephens Little Athletics club congratulate Aileesha and Jock on an amazing season and hope to see more great results in the future.
