Preparations are well underway for a Charity Golf Day to replace the annual Angel Billy Golf Classic which had to be cancelled due to the Covid 19 restrictions.

Carla Beer of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Support Group in Port Stephens told News Of The Area, “This will be Port Stephens Support Group’s Major fundraiser for the year.”

The event will be held on 8 November at Nelson Bay Golf Club.

“In the past 22 years our local group has raised in excess of $700,000 on our Golf events alone and we thank the generosity of our major sponsors including Port Stephens Toyota, Harvey Norman Salamander Bay, Carlton United Brewery, Steak n Chops Butchers Tanilba Bay, Woolworths, Port Stephens Party Supplies and many other local companies, clubs and the community.”

The rejigged event will be quite different thanks to COVID-19.

There will be no function after the game, and no dinner however there are plans to make the event memorable.

COVID-19 has also changed the format with no shotgun start.

Instead there will be timed starts held at seven minute intervals from two tees.

“Our Golf competition will still be the same with our usual Hole in One prize of a Toyota car, we will also have our Major Harvey Norman Raffle, Betting Holes and 100 Club.

“Drinks will be available to purchase on the course plus we will have our customary sausage sizzle which is complementary,” she said.

Entry is now open and everyone is welcome to come along, you never know this year’s hack for charity could see you take home a car while supporting a vital service in our region.
