Proposing the invitation to Council, Mayor Ryan Palmer says a royal visit would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Port Stephens to showcase its incredibly diverse and unique product to a worldwide audience and would undoubtedly inspire more travellers to visit Port Stephens for years to come:

“In close proximity to Sydney and with world famous natural beauty, Port Stephens is one of the state’s premier tourist destinations and a must visit for many tourists worldwide. We have a world famous marine park and equally famous dolphin, whale and koala populations at our doorstep for all to enjoy.”

“The Invictus Games are focussed on providing long-term impact to the defence community to harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and elicit greater community understanding for those who serve their country. With Williamtown RAAF Base close by, Port Stephens is home to many of our serving military men and women and offers a unique opportunity for the Duke and Duchess to further connect with this community whilst visiting our country.”
