More than 1,000 students from Tomaree High School (THS) were on hand to see Ellie Wagland, presented with the Port Stephens Legacy Group (PSLG) Award.

Ellie received the Award for having attained the school’s highest Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) with a result of 96.25 for 2017 and also being named Tomaree High School’s Dux for that year.

PSLG Chairman, Doug Jacka, congratulated Ellie and presented her with the inaugural PSLG Alan Hudson OAM and Bart Richardson OAM Award and a cheque for $1000 for her outstanding academic results.

Ellie is now enrolled at Macquarie University.

The award was established to honor the service to the community of two of the original founder Legates Alan Hudson OAM and Bart Richardson OAM, in 2017.

Legate Doug Jacka told News Of The Area, “Both men were veterans of World War II.

Both were involved in Legacy for many years.

In the Nelson Bay, Fingal Bay, Salamander Bay, Shoal Bay and Tilligerry Peninsula areas, PSLG assists nearly 260 people who look to Legacy for varying levels of support, advice and social interaction.

Most are elderly ladies but, sadly, there is now a need to help families of our service people from more recent hostilities and peace-keeping operations.

“We are most grateful for the support we continually receive from Tomaree High School, its students and staff, for the invaluable, cheerful and willing assistance from the school during our fundraising badge days.

“The Education Achievement Award goes some way towards showing our appreciation to Tomaree High School,” he said.

Sue Xenos, Principal of Tomaree High School said, “The school is very proud of the achievements of all our graduating students, & students like Ellie highlight the success being achieved by our students & teachers.”
