Even if you are brand new to the sport and don’t know who Isaac Heeney is, give the sport of AFL a try this year.

Heeney, originally from the Newcastle suburb of Cardiff, is one of the Sydney Swans young guns in the AFL and looking to go one better than runners-up this season.

But it all started at his local football club, and Port Stephens Power are looking for the next super star, or passionate player, of Aussie Rules football.

And that could be you.

Never played Aussie Rules before?

Don’t really understand the game?

There is no better way to learn the rules and fall in love with the game than signing up with your local club and playing our national winter sport.

Port Stephens Junior AFL club invites your family to participate in ‘Come and Try’ pre-season training nights from Tuesday, 24th January.

Boys and girls (from four-15) who attend will experience a training session conducted by experienced coaches.

These ‘Come and Try’ nights will be held every Tuesday night from Tuesday 24th till approximately end of March, from 5-
6pm at Ferodale Oval.

There is no cost for participating, just bring along sun protection, filled drink bottle, suitable clothing and footwear for sports activity.

Club representative Jackie Thomson Hays told News Of The Area, “Our aim is to give the kids a taste for the sport and to introduce ourselves to you.”

“We are looking forward to some fun pre-season training nights and a fantastic season.”

Come along for a fun, professionally-coached session for the kids, information for parents about Port Stephens Junior AFL Club and a chance to ask questions and meet other families with kids of the same age group.
