BIRUBI Point Surf Life Saving Club will begin another round of training courses starting this month.

The club is always looking for new members, encouraging not just seniors, nippers and teenagers to sign up to learn how to be surf lifesavers, but also their parents, uncles and aunties.

Birubi Point Surf Club encourages children aged from 13, young adults, parents and those still young at heart to help keep the beach safe during the patrolling season.

In addition to patrols, Cadets aged 13-17 meet most Fridays for an informal and fun paddle and swim session, usually followed by a sausage sizzle.

Parents who are qualified surf lifesavers also join in and it is a great opportunity for both children and adults to meet new people, improve their water skills and share experiences.

“The Club has a relaxed and informal atmosphere and several social functions are held during the year, with an emphasis on fun family friendly events,” Helen Ratcliffe, Vice President of Birubi Point SLSC, told Bay News Of The Area.

A training Information night is being held in the Clubroom on Friday 24th February 2017 from 5-7pm.

Anyone who is aged from 13 upwards is welcome to come along and find out more about how to become a surf lifesaver.

“If you are nervous in the water or unable to pass the swim test, but still want to be a part of our Club, you can become an Award member,” Ms Ratcliffe said.

Birubi’s training team, headed by Alison Gannon, will be at the Club on the 24 February  and you are invited to come along to find out how satisfying, fun and rewarding being a Surf lifesaver can be.
