THANKS to a generous government grant, a community space will be getting a much needed upgrade.

Hawks Nest Community Hall will be undergoing a major facelift, after receiving a $300,000 community development grant.

Plans have been drawn up by MidCoast Council after consultation with the community and taking stakeholders’ feedback into consideration.

The plans are available online as a PowerPoint presentation, as well as digital copies of the concept design plan and engagement report from the first community consultation in August 2019.

Participants rated technology and parking as being of high importance, and outward appearance of the community hall as being of least importance.

Other infrastructure such as air conditioning and undercover walkways were also of concern.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the second phase of community consultations was held online in the form of a survey.

“With the current restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have moved our second phase of this consultation online,” explained Council’s Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades, Dan Aldridge.

“It’s important to us that the process for the upgrades to the Hawks Nest Community Hall continues so we can deliver these upgrades for the community.”

Online submissions for the second phase of community consultation closed on Friday 12 June.

The Hawks Nest Community Hall was officially opened on 5 December 1970, as a combined project of the then Stroud Shire Council, Hawks Nest Progress Association and the Hawks Nest Progress Association Ladies Auxilliary.
