A delegation headed to the Country Women’s Association Hunter Area Annual Conference in Newcastle recently to hand over their cheque. “There were about 150 members at the conference at Bar Beach in Newcastle,” Mother of Pearl’s Kathy Gillespie said. “We handed over our donation of $3,200 to the Country Women’s Disaster Relief Committee President, Tanya Cameron.” “We’d also like to make special mention to Margarete Lethorn who also donated $200 from sales of horse shoes to the festival goers.” The CWA has now donated more than $3million dollars to families toughing it out in the drought. Funding goes to help with household needs such as groceries, clothes, school items and medications. Every cent donated to the CWA goes directly to families, with no administrative costs. Kathy Gillespie said, “I’d like to say well done to all the Pearls, especially Kerry Patterson for working tirelessly to ensure it all ran smoothly at the festival.” Hopefully they’ll be back to do it all again next year.
