A NEW pairs tournament is set to be one of Coffs Harbour’s biggest annual bowls events.

Park Beach Bowling Club is excited to announce the inaugural Phoenix Open Pairs will be held in July.

The tournament will commence on Monday, 5 July with games each day through to the finals on Friday, 9 July.

The carnival will see five rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals, with the final to be held on Friday, 9 July.

A highlight of the event will be a Calcutta to be held on Monday evening.

All three greens will be fully utilised over the five days of the tournament.

With total prize money of $38,250 the week of bowls will also feature three sponsored skill competitions with “Drawing” and “Driving” ability tested, plus a Dash for Cash – each worth $1,000 to the winner.

Entries are being finalised now with 42 teams to be accepted with nominations already received from some of Australia’s best-known bowlers, as well some local North Coast champions.

Park Beach Bowling Club Chief Executive Officer Thane Duncan said it was a great honour to host the inaugural Phoenix Open Pairs.

“The Club was honoured to be hosting such a prestigious event on the National Bowling calendar,” he said.

Park Beach Bowling Club will conduct a media information presentation once all teams have been confirmed.

July is set to be a busy month for the Park Beach Bowling Club.

In addition to the Phoenix Open Pairs, they will also be hosting the Park Beach Women’s Master Pairs straight after the Phoenix Open Pairs on the weekend of 10-11 July.

The Park Beach Watsons Mixed Pairs event will also be held on 13-14 July.

The Park Beach Bowls Club has regular weekly events, including Men’s and Ladies Mixed Pairs/ Triples, Ladies and Men’s Bowls, Twilight Bowls, Open Pairs for Men, Ladies and Mixed, and Mixed Social Bowls.
