FootGolf is an affordable game that takes place on the fairways of golf courses around the world with 20 courses in NSW participating in the sport, including in Port Stephens at Horizons Golf Resort.

It is played using the rules of golf using a size 5 soccer ball and using the par rating of the hole, FootGolf holes are closed during regular golf play.

At the launch of the game, one round of the FootGolf World Tour was held at Horizons Golf Resort.

Bob Westbury Director of Horizons Golf Resort told News Of The Area, “Horizons is excited to be the only accredited FootGolf course in Port Stephens.”

He believes that in opening the course to the sport that Horizons will engage with a much wider audience, and they are looking to a future which will welcome families, schools and sports leagues through to play this new fun sport.

“New sports and activities that families can get involved with are great for Port Stephens, and tourism, families and locals can put teams together and visitors to the region can also give this sport a try,” he said.

Mayor Ryan Palmer said “I think FootGolf will be a great addition to the activities Port Stephens has to offer and it’s great to see so many families here today”.

Leonardo Fernandez said “I have been talking to the World Tour players here today and they have already said that this is one of the best FootGolf Courses they have played at so far.

The locals tested out FootGolf and first placed and congratulations go to Andrew Kirk, Jai Pyke, Daniel Macca and Matt Cole from Nelson Bay FC who have took out the Inaugural title.

The launch showed that anybody can play FootGolf and that there is plenty of interest in the game.

  1. I will be impressed with the Mayor when he decides that any more than five stories high buildings in Nelson Bay is too high. Give high rise the boot.
