The latest gold star goes to the residents of Palm Lake Resort in Tea Gardens.

“With all the recent publicity around the drought and learning how all of NSW is affected, particularly local Hunter and lower New England areas, the Social Committee looked at how they could run a fundraiser,” Helen O’Harae told News of The Area.

“The Bar Committee already had organised a ‘Winter Warmer’ lunch for residents, so the Presidents, Merry Hughes and Susan Farrar, put it to both the committees that members of the Social Committee would fund-raise at this event.”

Susan contacted Rural Aid Ltd, a charity run by volunteers, which operates in the area, and is sponsoring a “Buy a Bale’ program.

“A flyer advertising the fundraiser was distributed to all residents, offering those who were not able to attend the lunch a means of donating as well,” Helen said.

“Residents were offered the choice of buying a bale for $20 or $50, or making a donation of any amount.”

Not only was the Sunday afternoon get together great fun but it was a great fundraiser for our farmers.

The Palm Lake residents raised $5,596.95.

Helen said, “It was a mammoth result from about 400 residents with the Social Committee overwhelmed by the residents’ generosity.”
