The goal is to have simultaneous paddling events happening, at a specific time, in every time zone in each country around the world. Launching Port Stephens Naturefest, Paddle for the Planet comes to Shoal Bay 3 June. Port Stephens Paddle for the Planet aims to draw attention to our unique water environment and activities and has been organised by Rod Waski, a passionate Stand Up Paddleboarder, diver and passionate water enthusiast. “We are hoping to encourage paddlesport enthusiasts from all around Port Stephens and beyond to come and be part of what will be an amazing day of paddle fun,” Rod Waski told Bay News Of The Area. “Kayaks, outriggers, SUPs, surf skiers, canoes and Dragon boaters are all welcome and we hope to connect paddlers of many different persuasions through their shared passion for the water,” Mr Waski said. Paddle for the Planet aims to raise awareness and financial support for marine conservation specifically in the area of conservation reserves and “no take zones”, minimising the impact of fishing on sensitive areas, river pollution clean up programs, beach clean ups and marine awareness programs. Paddlers of all crafts can register through Facebook or through the organisation’s website. Paddle for the Planet will take place at Shoal Bay Boat Ramp on 3 June. Registrations open at 8:30am and the event will start at 10:00am with a barbecue at the conclusion. Shoal Bay SUP will be offering a number of paddleboards for free to participate on the day, however pre-booking is required. Donations on the day will be accepted on behalf of the Australian Marine Conservation Society and Sea Shepherd Australia. More information can be found on the Facebook page, Shoal Bay SUP.
