Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au The tradition continues this weekend with drivers coming from all over New South Wales for the 25th anniversary edition of the big event. “It’s been our biggest event every year pretty much since it began,” Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club president James Morrison said. “The first event had 69 drivers and we normally expect about 150 drivers each year.” The number of drivers competing at the Phil Hawthorne Drive track this weekend will be about half that number but Morrison said the racing will still be as good as ever. “Everything is in place so it will still be a good event, it just won’t be as big as it normally would be,” he said. “This year we’ve got one or two drivers coming down from Queensland when we normally have 40 or 50. “We also normally get drivers come up from Victoria so COVID has knocked us around a little bit. “Although the numbers are down the racing is still going to be as fierce as ever.” Qualifying will be on Saturday while the races that determine the winners in each class will be run on Sunday. “There will be a couple of classes with 13 or 14 in each class which will make it pretty exciting,” the president said.
