Sometimes our Thursday Walks are not through bushland, but urban landscapes.

On 26th May we enjoyed a historical guided walk through the township of Stroud.

We were fortunate that the family of our guide, Rodney Gorton, had purchased their land from the A.A. Company, which had founded Stroud.

We began at the underground silos, wondering whether we’d get the chance to climb inside one of them if it could be restored.

The 1840’s Quambi House has been fully restored by the local Historical Society Members, and we spent some time exploring it and the items in it.

It was pointed out that this two storey Georgian house was designed for the northern hemisphere, and there are no windows on the northern side.

Next to it is John’s Church with its churchyard, where we learned a little more history before walking to the Court House, home of the Society.

The significance of several other buildings was explained before we sampled the local bakeries for lunch and made our way back home again.
