OPINION: What has happened to our area?

DEAR News Of The Area,

I WOULD like to ask what has happened to the Coffs Coast.

Have you had a good look lately?

Roundabouts are an absolute disgrace.

Driving into Coffs from the south the roundabout at England’s Road and Stadium Drive is completely full of weeds and rubbish – this is the gateway to our city.

Drive further along the road into Coffs and again the median strips are full of weeds and rubbish – is this how we showcase our city?

The three roundabout’s on Hogbin Drive are exactly the same, full of weeds and rubbish.

Once they were beautiful, full of flowers and colour, neatly kept and an absolute pleasure to look at.

It has been a long time since we saw any council activity in this area.

Travelling north to Grafton the median strip near the resorts are also a disgrace.

In Sawtell the footpaths in the village are a trip hazard, the Mayor, after a meeting with concerned business owners and residents called them eclectic (which I believe means mixed, dissimilar, or a stand out feature) as a Sawtell local we just called them simply unacceptable.

The Mayor mentioned that the chances of any work being done in Sawtell is about three to five years away.

The walk to the headland along Boronia Street, which would have to be the most popular trek daily for many people is uneven and very dangerous, with lots of yellow paint and at night you walk on the road because the lighting is so bad.

On a recent trip to Grafton I was delighted to see only one empty shop (Coffs has many in Harbour Drive) and they have spent some money beautifying the city centre with lovely planter boxes, it really looked fantastic and gave the whole city a very colourful and welcoming feeling.

I wish our council could see the exquisiteness in our lovely area and spend some money beautifying it!

Regards,
Julia ATKINSON,
Sawtell.

  1. Coffs Council need to pay for their new ergonomic colour-co-ordinated office chairs somehow ……. so maintenance suffers.
