THE lack of a footpath on Tomaree Road (‘Lack of footpath on Tomaree Road’, p4, Port Stephens NOTA, 24 February Edition) is never more challenging than when getting off the bus at the first stop on Tomaree Road – in the dark with a suitcase.

I get out onto a grassy area sloping upwards in complete darkness.

I wrestle my bag on to the road and walk in pitch black towards oncoming traffic.

Yes, lighting is a problem too.

Little wonder people do not use public transport.
