FROM the official start of the Fire Season each year a dedicated number of volunteers are normally ready to drop everything and assist with a variety of tasks to help protect the community and environment. Whilst the warmer months are by far the busiest for these volunteers, training is continued all year round in an effort to ensure all members kept up to date with procedures and operating equipment. The Pindimar –Tea Gardens Rural Fire Service have stations based at both Pindimar and Tea Gardens, with three valuable vehicles in the current fleet, and all with very different operational capabilities. From troublesome Pile Burns, to Hazard and Controlled Burns to assisting NSW Fire and Rescue and NSW Police with everything from motor vehicle accidents and structure fires, keeping up to date with training is of paramount importance for all involved for the varied tasks undertaken. The Pindimar –Tea Gardens R.F.S crews hold on average four training sessions a month, with two evening sessions at Tea Gardens, and two morning sessions at Pindimar, with the most recent training day occurring at Pindimar on Sunday 26 June. Email us today for a quote: ads@mcnota.com.au All three vehicles were utilised and ten members were put through their paces connecting different size hoses, nozzles and all used at varying pressures to simulate actual fire events. Water on board these vehicles is of course an important asset, so training was also heavily focussed on ‘Draughting’, or simply described as being able to pump water back into each vehicle from a water supply such as a dam or town Hydrant. Keeping a stable number of up to date members is always quite important. Speaking with News Of The Area, Captain of Pindimar-Tea Gardens R.F.S Helmut Panhuber said, “Whilst we have a diverse number of members, both female and male and of all ages, we are always extending an invitation to anyone who’d like to join us.” “This time of year is perfect for anyone wanting to join and gain valuable experience, and more importantly,be qualified and confident by the time fire season arrives. The more members we have the safer the community should feel, and overall it assists the fantastic team spirit we enjoy within the group.” he said.
