‘On the couch’ with Jasminda

DEAR Jasminda,

My friends gave me a group birthday present for a hot air balloon experience.

Given my hatred for heights and confined spaces, I’m wondering if I need new friends.

Mary H.

Dear Mary,

There are two ways you could take this.

Either your friends are trying to get you out of your comfort zone by exposing you to new adventures, or your friends are cruel, borderline sadistic, or just don’t know you very well.

Some people would tell you to embrace your fears as it will lead to personal growth.

I’m not one of those people, instead picturing a random bird colliding with the balloon and puncturing it, leading to a rather inconvenient plummet back to earth as you leap out and hope the parachute works (do these hot air balloons come equipped with parachutes? – worth checking).

I’d be returning the favour by offering your friends presents based on their phobias.

A box of huntsman spiders?

A sailing expedition in furious seas?

A public speaking event with a hostile crowd?

Your friends may then get the message, and perhaps take the opportunity to get to know you a bit better.

Carpe diem,
Jasminda.
