BULAHDELAH Bowling Club Auditorium was packed to the rafters last weekend as people gathered from near and far for the Old Friends Get Together.

Past residents had travelled from all over the state for the popular reunion to reconnect, share old stories and reminisce with the friends they had grown up with in the town.

Guests arrived early to mingle and chat with constant laughter and conversation continuing well into the late afternoon.

The event was organised by two old friends, Joan Cheers and Irene Worth who were delighted to see so many faces they hadn’t seen for quite a while.

“The only time that everyone gets together is at a funeral, so we thought that it would be nice to catch-up in happier circumstances,” Mrs Worth said.

Eight of the old friends celebrated their 80th birthdays this year and Les Morgan turned 90.

Mrs Worth said the get together allowed everyone to celebrate together.

The friends celebrating their birthdays talked about their younger days and said it felt like only yesterday when they were all playing together in the streets.

Mrs Worth told News Of The Area the highlight of the day was simply being able to catch up with friends.

“It was great to get together with everyone, especially people who we hadn’t seen since the last one,” Mrs Worth said.

“We’ve all been able to catch up and find out what we’ve missed in each other’s lives.”

The reunion has now been held four times and Mrs Worth said all the old friends were definitely looking forward to the next one.
