Labor’s Kate Washington has pledged $6 million through the party’s Fixing Regional Local Roads program as well as pledging to fix Nelson Bay Road.
While Jaimie Abbott and the Liberal Party has pledged $188 million to create the Fingal Link Road.
Roads, Maritime and Freight Minister Melinda Pavey said the high cost of the fully duplicated road, due to topography and environmental considerations, has not discouraged the Government from getting the job done.
“We recognize special measures will need to be taken to protect the wildlife and minimise impacts on the environment including water catchment issues which will be resolved to the full satisfaction of Hunter Water.”
“It will not be cheap to build this road properly, but it is one of the most needed new roads in the State, it will relieve traffic bottlenecks, and will assist the Tomaree Headland communities choking on traffic over summer,” Minister Pavey said.
Both Liberal and Labor parties have promises for the duplication of Nelson Bay Road with Labor pledging to see the roads dual carriageway completed, while the Liberals have pledged to complete the dual carriageway from Williamtown to Bob’s Farm adding to the section that they completed from Bobs Farm to Anna Bay.
Both Labor and Liberal Parties have committed to fixing local roads during their campaigns.
Independent Candidate Bill Doran expressed his views on the Fingal Bay Link Road, saying “I’d rather the $188 million pledged for the Fingal Bay Link Road go to a regular fast ferry service that links all points of the bay; imagine how much more involvement there would be in things if it only took 15 to 20 minutes to get from Karuah or Tea Gardens to Nelson Bay.”
