Harry Adnam, a young Soldiers Point teenager, has a bright future ahead of him.

Harry was recently chosen to be a youth representative at the YMCA NSW Junior Parliament 2016.
This was the third consecutive year of Junior Parliament and it was an incredible time for all those who participated.
The YMCA Junior Parliament is a program that gives young people a voice in the running of NSW.

It’s a place where the opinions and concerns of young people in NSW are heard by those who are making the laws.
This program is run by young people for young people, aiming to promote youth led advocacy, community leadership and legal and parliamentary education.

It is a unique program targeting young people in years 7-9, throughout the state of NSW to take part in the political youth development program.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for Harry and other students who are academically minded,” Paula Adnam,Harry’s Mother, told News Of The Area.

“During the week, Harry also had the opportunity to attend a week long camp with the other junior representatives and so it was all very exciting,” Mrs Adnam said.

Harry Adnam was school captain at Soldiers Point Primary School and was then chosen to be a student at the Selective Academic School Merewether High.

Harry is 14 years of age and is currently in Year 8.
To be considered as a youth representative in Junior Parliament, Harry had to choose two topics from a suggested ten and submit his essays to the panel.

Harry chose subjects close to his heart, aged care and mental health.
His essay on mental health talked about how important he felt it was to have a subject on mental health included into the school curriculum.

Harry recommended that the subject should have it’s own teacher assigned to it.
Mental Health issues are so common today and the young teen believes that having the subject included at school would help diffuse the social stigma that this illness carries.

The suggestion obviously impressed the judging panel and four weeks later Harry received notification that he was accepted as one of the candidates.

The best is yet to come in this young man’s life and Bay News Of the Area looks forward to keeping abreast of Harry’s upcoming achievements.
