Hawks Nest Bridge Club are pleased with the news that a grant, previously applied for through the NSW Community Building Partnership program, has been given the green light.

It is to be used for a purpose built clubhouse in Yamba Street Hawks Nest where members can meet and play duplicate Bridge and to socialise.

The NSW Community Building Partnership program supports the improvement of community infrastructure, and creates more vibrant and inclusive communities by supporting projects that encourage community participation, inclusion and cohesion.

Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington MP was over the moon for the Bridge Clubs members when she contacted Myall Coast News after hearing of her success in gaining funding from the NSW Government.

Speaking with Myall Coast News, Ms Washington said, “This is a fantastic result for a very community minded group of members who have fought hard for this funding, and it’s given me great pleasure to have been involved in helping them source the $50,000 granted towards the project”.

Bridge Club President Trish Gratwick thanked Kate Washington MP for her guidance and support during a recent meeting celebrating the announcement at the proposed site of the Bridge Clubs facilities.

Trish Gratwick said, “This is the start of exciting times for our 100 members, being given the opportunity to have our own clubhouse is amazing, and we all want to thank Ms Washington for her constant efforts in helping us try and achieve this.”

The purpose built facilities will be on a parcel of land owned by Great Lakes Council and will be 244sq.m in size. Apart from Bridge and regular get-togethers, the facility will also be able to meet the need of other sport and recreational groups with similar needs.

It is anticipated that furnishings like tables and chairs can be left in place for each users individual session requirements and some refreshment facilities are also planned.

Also receiving funding with the assistance of Ms Washington, Karuah Public School will receive $10,500 which will go towards much needed upgrades to the schools kitchen and canteen area which will include new bench tops, additional drawers, cupboards, cupboard doors, shelving and painting of internal ceiling and walls.
