Photo: NACCAi. NORTH Arm Cove has been awarded a grant of up to $90,506 in the Stronger Country Communities Program to build a sealed exercise track with outdoor exercise stations and seating at Yallarwah Park. This new project is an extension of the original ‘Give us a heart’ project in 2016, which resulted in the formation of the Yallarwah Park and the existing walking track. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Over time the facilities have deteriorated due to weeds and heavy rainfall events and as such, it is difficult for use by young children and adult walkers, and in particular elderly residents. “Over the next couple of months we will be finalising the layout and design, the selection of exercise stations and seating arrangements, and the costing so we can ensure that the project is completed within the grant funding. “We will also be liaising with MidCoast Council to ensure that we meet their requirements, and adjacent residents to make sure they are happy with what is planned,” Bob Reid, President of NACCAi said. This proposal will reconfigure and shorten the track, seal the surface using hot mix asphalt or concrete, install two exercise stations each containing three types of exercise equipment, and install additional seating and a picnic table. It is expected that the upgraded walking track will be used extensively by North Arm Cove residents and visitors, and it will contribute significantly to improved health and fitness. Importantly, it will be safe and easy to use for elderly residents, people with wheelchairs and walkers, and young children. Construction is anticipated to begin within two-three months, with completion by the end of the year. “I would like to thank the NSW Government, Deputy Premier Paul Toole and the Stronger Country Communities Fund for making this grant available – it is greatly appreciated,” Mr Reid said.
