Or media@newsofthearea.com.au Or CLICK FOR ADVERT QUOTE News Of The Area joined forces with Medowie Neighbourhood Watch and Sportz Café to help create a friendly network of homes who would be participating in the trick or treat activities. The idea was simple in that an orange balloon was to be inflated and attached to the mailbox of any house that was happy to participate in the Halloween festivities. These balloons were available in a packet provided by News Of The Area, Medowie Neighbourhood Watch and Sportz Café and able to be collected from Coles, Woolworths and Sportz Cafe. The Medowie Mums facebook group also created a private map using Google Maps to show parents of any young trick or treater where the Halloween friendly houses were in the community, making the private link available within the group on the morning of Halloween. Medowie Neighbourhood Watch Publicity Officer, and creator of the map, Jo Evans was thrilled with the response, telling News Of The Area, “It was just incredible to watch all of the houses start to multiply on the Medowie Mums map, which not only meant a lot of friendly places for children to participate in Halloween, but also the popularity of the event is growing substantially every year.” “Our balloon buckets were needing to be replenished quite regularly in the few days beforehand, and it was great to see so many members of the community get in the Halloween spirit for our children to have an incredible experience.” “However, this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of News of the Area and Sportz Café, and of course the Medowie Mums group.” “They’ve all been great and we hope to make next year’s Halloween an even bigger success,” she said. The final count was a whopping 57 Halloween Friendly Homes on the Medowie Mums map, however there were many more ghoulish participants with orange balloons lining many of the town’s streets, with over 450 balloons taken home. If 2017 is anything to go by, Halloween in 2018 will no doubt be another big social event on the Medowie community calendar. By Rachael VAUGHAN Xavier, Archie, Eleanor and Amelia had a great night.
