A Development Application was recently lodged with MidCoast Council to expand the initial concept, to include an additional 99 caravan sites, two amenity buildings and a communal kitchen. The Development Application for Stage 2 is currently on public exhibition. “We have been working with MidCoast Council to make sure this development meets all the current requirements,” site owner Gary Ekert said. “We are looking forward to commencing construction as soon as approval is granted.” Gary and his wife Kim, who have owned the site for a number of years, believe the development will greatly benefit businesses in Bulahdelah and the surrounding areas. “It will have the potential to bring over 300 people to the town every week, bringing with them valuable tourist dollars and building on the reputation of Bulahdelah and the magical Myall Lakes and what it has to offer,” Gary said. “The development will open up over one kilometre of riverfront land to visitors through sprawling walkways and enhanced natural landscaping, linking it back to the township.” Speaking with News Of The Area, Gary said the project will also create many new jobs during construction which will “flow into permanent and part time employment for locals”. Bulahdelah Chamber of Commerce Vice-President, Kevin Carter, said the tourist park development is one of the largest investments in Bulahdelah since the Bypass. “It’s good to see new investment like this in the town as it will lead to the diversity of options and complement existing venues,” he said. “Private investments, such as the tourist park, show a commitment to the growth of Bulahdelah.” The Development Application for the project can be viewed on Midcoast Council’s webpage, or in person at Council’s Forster Office and the Bulahdelah Rural Transaction Centre. So happy this is happening. We often stay at the free camp next to bridge , but this will be a great improvement for the area , We are planning to retire in 4 years would love to be able to get reception experience so when we are travelling we can relieve park owners to have some R/R, which is probably much needed. Please make sure you have a communal fire pit. Best for the future. Reply
Having the option of a nice park would be great but DONT force the closure of the show ground or bowls club camping. Not everyone can afford Big 4 rates or want to go into a Caravan Park. We never camp at the bridge as we prefer the show ground. Reply
We love travelling the country and will alway patronise a town which provides a free camping site for self contained vehicles. Spending money at the bakery, IGA, pub etc is always our objective. If the free camp is closed to passify the expensive caravan park operations we will drive through Buladelah. Too often I see caravan park operators complaining that free camping should be illegal yet their only concern is ensuring they profit from the closure of any freedom camps while the other business in town miss out. I have very little time for a caravan park owner who insists on closing freedom camps. Hopefully Buladelah is not in that ilk as we’d prefer to keep patronising the other local businesses. Reply
Can’t agree more with Jim…we free camp and spend time in caravan parks about 50/50….the majority of people who do the same say any greedy caravan parks forcing the closure or reducing the numbers of sites in free or donations camping areas they just keep on driving to the next happy to welcome you town…hence the town business area suffers…if doubtful..ask the good local business people of Cobar what happened when the free camp was closed….a great example of it working is Bingara…welcoming lovely Prosperous town with all working together….have your Big4caravan park Buladelah but don’t make the mistake of letting the other areas be closed….cheers Reply
We all spend money in the towns we pass through on food, fuel & general supplies . To add another $36 minimum to the daily budget for a place to simply stop & sleep is simply not possible. Read the reviews. If you want people to stop in your town don’t force them to stay in expensive caravan parks that they don’t want nor need. They will remain in the highway. Reply
It always amazed me how caravan parks can convince councils to close free camps because it hirts their business. What about all the motels in Bulajhdelah that are now hurting because of this new business that only opened 5 months ago ? This lovely town consists of a multitude of small businesses that benefit from us grey nomads. Council should not be influenced by the greed of one business Reply
