COFFS Harbour Squash Club hosted junior squash players from around the Mid North Coast on Sunday with players contesting five divisions in a One Day Challenge.

The Tournament was a New South Wales Bronze event where players competed for ranking points for the first time since October 2020.

Coffs Harbour Squash Club has a rich history in developing players from grassroots up to national level and Head Coach and court owner Peter Saxby was encouraged by the development he saw at the tournament.

“The players showed plenty of improvement during matches and eagerly helped some of the newcomers competing for the first time.

“In the top division, locals Sam Moriz came out winner from a very gallant Lachlan Walmsley in a tight four games, in the Under 15’s Madison Nargar was impressive throughout securing a straight games win against Jayden Sparks of Nambucca Heads,” explained Saxby.

“There were three divisions contested for the under 15’s, 13’s and 11’s age groups with new players adapting to the format with great results, Wyatt Brain produced a big effort to hold out Lani Cooper in five tight games, newcomer Kobe White playing his first tournament came from two games down to win a thriller in five great games and was a big improver during the day.

“For the younger players competing in division three, Ayla Brain and Bodhi Wratten went the full distance in their round encounter only to set up a repeat match in the longest final of the day with Ayla finally getting home 11/7 in the deciding game,” concluded Saxby.
