Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au New committee President Keith Bensley commended the retiring committee under Warren Hollyman for reaching the outstanding milestone of 100 continuous years of Fun Days. Despite the threat of COVID-19 and that the traditional woodchop circuit has been cancelled, all the favourites including rides, jumping castles and children’s entertainment are returning. For the first time a Pets and Critters animal nursery will be there as well. Also new for 2021 will be a stage featuring local entertainers, and of course no Fun Day is complete without the traditional food stalls. Extra good news is that the traditional Fun Run through the streets of Sawtell and sprint races at the Sawtell Beach Holiday Park organised by Sawtell & Toormina Little Athletics are confirmed for 2021. “The new committee is full of enthusiasm and determined to organise a great day of family activities and entertainment,” Mr Bensley said. “We all need respite from the months of restrictions and what better way than the Super Fun Day to blow away the negatives.” The award of Sawtellian of the Year is a major highlight of the Super Fun Day and for 2021 the committee is adding a new award. The Young Sawtellian of the Year is for those under 18 who have made a significant contribution to the community. Details of how to nominate will be announced next month. So much is already in place for the 101st edition but there’s still more to be done to ensure the best possible day is created for the local community. “This year has not been easy for many of us and we are very conscious that many families have done it tough under COVID,” Mr Bensley said. “For 2021 the emphasis is to give families maximum value for their hard-earned dollars.” The committee is still open to new ideas and can always use volunteers on the day. To give everyone the opportunity to participate, a public meeting has been organised for 2.30pm on Saturday at the Sawtell Surf Club. The committee would like people to come along, bring their friends and lend support.
