Rick Mackenzie, Council’s Civil Projects Engineer, says the new roundabout is designed to create a safer intersection for all users. “This intersection has been identified as a black spot due to the number of crashes that have happened here over the years,” Mr Mackenzie said. “Council has been successful in receiving funding from the State Government to build a roundabout, which is designed to reduce drivers’ speed and, in turn, reduce the number and severity of incidents,” he said. “There will be a few changes for drivers to get used to – the main one being the realignment of Success Street and Lemon Tree Passage Road, which will provide a safer exit for drivers entering Success Street,” he added. Mr Mackenzie says the works are scheduled to begin from late March. “We’re expecting the project to get underway at the end of this month, with works scheduled to take about 12 weeks depending on the weather,” he said. “During the construction, Lemon Tree Passage road will remain open with reduced speed limits, but the entry to Poilus Parade and Avenue of the Allies will be inaccessible – drivers will instead be diverted to enter via President Wilson Walk. “We ask that people are patient during the construction period and drive to the conditions. “I’d encourage anyone who wants to learn more to come along to the community drop-in session on Friday 16 March at the Kooindah Centre,” he added.
