Contractors for MidCoast Council told News Of The Area, “We’re doing all we can to get the pontoon finished before the Myall River Festival on 13 October.” “We’re very aware of the importance of having it finished by then to allow everyone to enjoy the festival.” It’s a big job, with the platform of the pontoon being constructed in Victoria. The new pontoon will be similar to the one already in use opposite the Tea Gardens Hotel, but it has been designed to create more berthing areas. “As part of the project a shelter will be constructed on the existing public wharf, also located on Marine Drive, to provide protection against the elements for users of this popular boat launching facility,” MidCoast Council’s Rhett Pattison said. “Use of the wharf will not be impacted, but minor disruptions for pedestrian traffic can be expected.” The project is being funded under the “Better Boating Now Program” an initiative of Roads and Maritime Services.
