Fran Corner, Chair of Tilligerry Landcare, told News Of The Area, “The new path starts at Forster Park and comes all the way to Tanilba Park.” “It’s certainly a long time coming, but it’s so wonderful to finally have it finished.” “We look forward to it one day going right the way along the waterfront,” she said. In attendance at the opening was the Mayor of Port Stephens Ryan Palmer, Councillor Sarah Smith, Kate Washington MP, members of Tilligerry Landcare and Tanilba Bay Parks and Reserves, and members of the public. Ryan Palmer addressed the crowd on behalf of Council as the first guest speaker, telling attendees that it is wonderful to see such a beautiful place accessible to so many more people, and that Port Stephens Council was pleased to play a part in the funding for the project. Kate Washington’s grants program contributed to the project, with the groups successfully applying for funding. She told the attendees, “I am fortunate that I get to see some really special grants and applications come to me, and this is a very important one that I wanted to see happen.” “I didn’t physically make this amazing space happen, so congratulations to all the people involved in this wonderful community led and driven project.” Attendees were treated to a morning tea of fresh scones, sandwiches, fruit platters and tea and coffee to celebrate the occasion. Charlie Crockett from Integrated Living was in attendance, and welcomed the project and the benefits it will have for older residents or disabled individuals in being able to access the waterfront.
