TEENAGERS are in for a treat as Nambucca Valley Council continues to upgrade the parks in the area.

At Hennessy Tape Oval, Bowraville, near the playground, Council is working to improve the area for young people.

Matt Leibrandt, Manager for Infrastructure Services, told News Of The Area that the “old tennis courts are getting resurfaced as tennis courts with a removable bollard so that one of them could be used for soccer”.

Nearby to the tennis courts a “climbing wall is going in, this will be for bouldering, which is indoor rock climbing but outside,” he said.

According to Mr Leibrandt, Council is consulting with members of the community on this project.

“We are working with local bouldering enthusiasts and they are going to plan the roots.

“There will be a tennis wall on the other side.

“We are doing things for teenagers, so trying to find something for that group to stay active and engaged.”

Mr Leibrandt explained that direct public transport is available to get to the park via bus, so that teenagers that don’t live in Bowraville can make use of the facilities.

According to Mr Leibrandt, the Council really hopes that the bouldering wall proves popular.

“There is a plan to also put one in Anderson Park.

“If it becomes popular we will put more in.

“We are seeing how it goes to start with.”

There is certainly cool stuff happening locally in the teenage recreation space.

At the time of speaking with News Of The Area, the bouldering wall was half built, so it won’t be long until it is finished and ready for climbing.
