Bite Book Club organiser Awia Markey made the seachange from Sydney to Coffs Harbour earlier this year, and prior to that successfully ran the same book club in Sydney’s Newtown area for a year.

Awia said it was a great way to get people together and share conversations around food and food topics, which she says are almost limitless.

“The Book club is a nice extension of my interest in food because I live to eat, and the reason it is food focused is because it starts a conversation, and food is such a huge topic from how people celebrate what they eat in their own culture, and their own memories of it,” Awia said.

“My aim is to get like-minded food lovers together to talk about all things food, with a monthly book choice relating to food or issues around food,” Awia said.

This month’s book choice is a cookbook titled ‘Breakfast Around the World – Food to wake up to’ by Bridget Davis.

“I’ve chosen this book to open up discussions about what each of us eats for breakfast, why, and the different cultural ideas and flavours around our first meal of the day,” Awia said.

“I look forward to hearing about people’s favourite and least favorite breakfasts, and the stories attached to them.”

Since making the move to Coffs Harbour, Awia has been impressed with the variety of food on offer within the city.

“Coffs has got so much fantastic food,” Awia said.

Bite Book Club runs the third Saturday of every month, and the next meeting will be held at 11am on Saturday, 21 November at Dark Arts Cafe, Cox Lane, Coffs Harbour.

Copies of ‘Breakfast Around The World – Food to wake up to’ can be purchased from The Book Warehouse at Coffs Harbour, or through Amazon, Booktopia or ebay.

Bookings must be made for the meeting on Awia’s website at https://bitefoodtours.com/bite-book-club/.
