Nelson Bay hosts TYCA Youth Week Skate and Scooter Competition

THE skate park at Fly Point will see plenty of action on 15 April from 9am with youth from around Port Stephens expected to take advantage of the free bus service.

As a part of the Port Stephens Youth Week celebrations the Tomaree Youth Community Action group is holding a massive skate and scooter competition.

A free bus will leave Sturgeon Street at Raymond Terrace at 8am, picking up from Medowie on Ferodale Road at 8.20am, Lemon Tree Passage at 8.40am opposite President Wilson Walk, Anna Bay at 9.15am near the chemist and arriving at Fly Point at 9.30am.

The bus departs at 3.30pm and will drop off in the reverse order of the pick up schedule.

Port Stephens Councillor Glen Dunkley told News Of The Area, “Events like these that engage our youth are becoming more and more important in our community with so many challenges facing the youth of today.

“Port Stephens Council is committed to providing safe and healthy community and are proud to be working with TYCA and their supporters on this event.”

All ages and abilities are welcome, in various divisions, the skate and scoot competition will also be a great event for spectators to enjoy.

“ We would encourage everyone to get involved, use the bus service and come down to Skate Park and check it out,” he said.

TYCA invites everyone to come along and enjoy a day of social inclusion, fun, market stalls, demonstrations, giveaways and the opportunity to showcase you skate and scooter skills.

Riding skateboards and scooters is an inherently risky activity, participants enter this competition at their own risk.

All participants MUST wear a helmet and protective gear, riders without the appropriate equipment will not be allowed to compete.
