The event was held in Bathurst over four days.
There was great success for the Hunter Hockey Association at the Masters State Championships with the over 35s, over 40s and over 60s all winning their divisions.
The Hunter over 40s Division 3 winners were a team consisting of players from our local Nelson Bay Hockey club.
Player Cathy Churchill told News Of The Area, “The girls would have been happy with just winning a game or two, instead we managed to take out the top position!”
“This is the first time that I remember a Nelson Bay Hunter representative team taking out a state tournament.”
The win was no fluke with the women working on their technique since last season.
This strategy paid off at the championships.
“I am so proud of them and all their hard work.”
“We are also really grateful to the local club.”
“Without the support of the Nelson Bay Hockey Club we would never have the opportunity to compete at a State level and represent our region,” Ms Churchill said.
The Nelson Bay Hockey Club is a club that welcomes new members in a range of age groups.
Their home ground is at Salamander Bay Sports Field.
