Corlette man, 22, arrested for Nelson Bay graffiti spree

A man has been charged with several alleged graffiti offences in Nelson Bay yesterday.

Nelson bayFollowing increased reports of graffiti used to deface shopping centres, council signage, child care centres, building sheds and toilet blocks in the Nelson Bay and surrounding areas; officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command commenced Operation Eraser to target these offences.

Following investigations, a 22-year-old man from Corlette was arrested yesterday (Wednesday 7 September 2016) at Nelson Bay Police Station.

He was charged with 29 counts of aggravated mark property without consent under the Graffiti Control Act (NSW) 2008.

Police also secured the man’s mobile phone and allegedly located a large number of photographs of graffiti within the local area.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 26 September 2016.
