Port Stephens Council has already cleared the land ready for the planting near the Ketch Close Bridge. Barbara Stack of the Corlette Landcare Group told News Of The Area, “National Tree Planting Day is something that the whole family can get involved in.” “All you need to do is turn up with a hat, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen and you can help to make a difference in the local environment.” “We meet once a month and new volunteers are always welcome to join in,” she said. All the plants will come from the Ngioka Centre and are endemic to the region. The group works in several sites around Corlette including the foreshore precinct, Lorikeet Reserve and is currently working to enhance the easement which passes between housing developments adjacent to Yawl Close and Bagnalls Beach Road. The group that is the recipient of a Council Community Grant for Corlette Parks Reserves and Landcare 355c committee will provide a $2000 contribution towards sun shade shelter which will be installed in Conroy Park. “We are very pleased to be able to install the sun shelter at Conroy Park and the Council funds will help make this possible.” “It’s being able to make a difference that motivates us to contribute to the community,” spokesperson Margaret Wilkinson said.
