Dr David Gillespie THE election for the Seat of Lyne has been run and won with Nationals Dr David Gillespie comfortably retaining the seat. At the close of counting on Election night, 86% of the total vote had been tallied. Dr Gillespie secured a strong lead with a margin of 62 percent in front of his closest rival Labor’sPeter Alley with 38 per cent of the two-party preferred vote. Independent Brad Christensenand Greens Julie Lyford each scored just over nine percent of the primary vote. They were followed by Christen Democrat Elaine Carter with three percent and Independent RodgerRiach with two percent. In the Myall Coast area, David Gillespie received the highest number of primary votes from voters at Bulahdelah, Hawks Nest, North Arm Cove and Tea Gardens polling places. In contrast, Labor’s Peter Alley scored 53% of the two-party preferred vote in Karuah. Shortly after 9.00pm on Election night, Dr Gillespie posted a message on Facebook saying, “Looking good in Lyne. Speaking to Media on Election Day, Dr Gillespie said he had been getting a good response around the polling places. “I’ve received an awful lot of support from people at the booths which is very encouraging,” he said. “We’ve run a positive campaign and I’ve worked really hard for the electorate.” Dr Gillespie also discussed the changes to the electoral boundaries for this election and said the Myall Coast is ‘absolutely majestic.’ “There are so many beautiful areas that I had been to as University student and it’s now really ironic that it’s now in the Lyne Electorate.” With 60 percent of votes counted for the NSW Senate, the Liberals/Nationals and Laborhave claimed four seats each with four seats still to be determined. The counting of votes is continuing.
