The Minor Pairs finished on Sunday 13 March with a sigh of relief from Bowls Organiser Mick Boyle. On Saturday morning the rain delayed quarter finals were finished with Neil Duffus and Bruce ‘Macadamia’ Mason defeating Dallas Nancarrow and Joe Frank 23 -15, and Peter Hill and Mino Bettanin defeating Danny ‘Machine’ Curran and Tony Stokes 22-17 (played early on Thursday). Tas Fribbens, who was subbing for Tommy ‘the raffle man’ Reynolds who was over in WA visiting family (since WA. finally became part of Australia again) and Paul Coulton defeated Gary Tierney and John ‘the Penguin’ Stewart 22-10. Bill ‘Bonzi’ Coughlan and Owen Smith defeated Terry ‘the Eel’ Harvey and Terry Snowden 23-17. After a short break battle recommenced in the arvo with Mino Bettanin (21) defeating Bruce Mason (17) and Owen Smith (23) defeating Paul Coulton (8). The Final on Sunday arvo was a cracker with fist pumps, hand waving and crowd cheering, plenty of “oohs” and “aahs” and some great heads. More games like this will bring the crowds back and when they do come back we will need a bigger verandah as there was a good crowd in attendance. Bonzi and Owen won a tight game beating Pete and Mino 20-17. It was good to see Peter Hill back playing championships again. The club’s premier event starts on Saturday with the Major Singles starting with some interesting match ups being played so let’s get down the club and fill the veranda to burst and cheer on the players. There are plenty of events coming up starting Monday 28 March with the inaugural Marquis Pairs event. See Bruce ‘Macadamia’ Mason and get your side in.
