WET weather at the start of the week and some King Tides restricted the use of Carts and Scooters to the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club cart path network – thanks to all who observed this requirement in order to preserve our spongy fairways. This week’s featured sponsor is Nambucca Glass – thanks to Craig Marsay and his team who also look after the Club’s replacement glass and automatic doors. Tuesday’ 7 December was a Medley Stableford was won by Nambucca Newsagent’s Stephen Kimber (16) with 42 points from the in-form Graham Watson (9) with 36 points. Other good scores from Stuart Garvey 36, Jeffrey Vanderwyk 35 and Keith Elphick 34, with the ball rundown to 32 points. Wednesday 8 December was the Women’s Christmas Party and Presentation Day with a 9 Hole Stableford 3 Club and putter event – a fun day with the ladies in their best Christmas attire, decorated Golf Carts and lots of bubbly to keep everyone happy. Division 1 (scratch to 25) was won by Glenys Thompson (13) on countback from Women’s Champion Sue Brooks (12) – both with 15 points. Division 2 (26 to 34) was won by Debra Gersbach (27) with 16 points from Jennifer Ainsworth (32) with 14 points. Division 3 (35 to 45) was won by Wendy Avery (45) with 15 points from Kerry Shearer (38) with 14 points. Other good scores from Christine Clarke (Bonville), Angela Patton & Wendy Ritchie on 14 points, Suzanne O’Donnell got the last of the ball rundown with 13 points. Thursday 9 December was a Medley Stableford – numbers were down due to threatening afternoon thunderstorms and damp conditions underfoot prohibiting use of golf carts on fairways. Unfortunately for the last few groups, the predicted Thunderstorm arrived, and play had to be suspended due to the threat of lightning. Division 1 (scratch to 19) was won by Stuart Johnston (9) with 37 points from Drew Glasson (10) with 36 points. Division 2 (20 to 45) was won by Dennis Ashton (20) with a fantastic round of 44 points – I understand 3 ‘chip-ins’’ on the front nine – to win from David Ogilvy (23) with 37 points. Other good scores from Anthony Smith and Donald Lavery 35, Peter Drysdale (Urunga) and Linne Street 34, the ball rundown to 29 on countback Friday 10 December was the final round of the Toyota Service Advantage sponsored Open “Island Challenge” Stroke event. Philip Mander (12) has been consistent all year and won the day with 65 net, from Lloyd Radcliffe (+3) from Kooindah Waters with a great round of 72 net. Gross winner was Bruce Berry 80, and the best Women player was Denise Paluch with 75 net. No other golfers played to their handicap or better. NTP’s went to Bruce Berry on 13 and Keith Elphick on 18. Congratulations to this year’s “Island Challenge” winner Keith Elphick who will enjoy the wonderful prize package of golf and accommodation at the fabulous Royal Pines Golf Resort. Keith’s 5 best net stroke rounds over the series totalled 353, to win from Stephen Carr 355, Bruce Berry 358, Andrew Johnston & Phil Mander 361, Andrew Mackinnon 362, Henny Oldenhove 363, Peter Moxon 366, Geoff McCann 367, Jenny Johnston 370, Heather Gray & Judy Boyle 372. Saturday 11 December was the annual Ham & Turkey Day 4BBB Stableford sponsored as always by Club Champion, Greg McCoy – thank you Greg. Overall winners of the Hams were Garry Johnstone & Trevor Peter with 45 points. Runners up to win the Turkeys were Scott Burley & Peter Fredericks with 44 points on countback from Lyall Gregory and Rod Hardy who won a carton of Peroni (compliments of the Club) with 44 points. Other good team scores from Paul Maxwell / Leslie Mohr, Ian Vidler / Andrew Johnston, Neil Duffus / Stuart Hughes with 43 points and the ball rundown to 41 points on countback. Upcoming Events: The Ladies are commencing their Summer 9 Hole Stableford competition on Wednesdays. Thursday 16 December is a Medley American Stableford, and Saturday is a Medley Stableford. Christmas Holidays – The Club and golf course will be closed on Christmas day, but open for business and social golf on Boxing Day. There will be Medley Stableford events on Monday 27, Tuesday 28 and Open ‘Dolphin Day’ Medley Stableford on 30 December.
